Our History

In 2022, TechFluent graduated 12 Participants with Certifications on Microsoft’s CE / Power Platform business application. In 2023, we graduated 18 Participants with the same certification. Across those two Cohort years, we experienced a career placement rate of roughly 60%.

We expect to graduate approximately 70 Participants from our 2024 Cohort. These Participants are being educated across three different Microsoft Certification Tracks – CE / Power Platform, Power BI Data Analytics and Enterprise Resource Planning. These Participants are scheduled to begin taking their certification exams in February, 2025 and will graduate at that time.

Techfluent Academy

About Us

The summer of 2020 was a time of transition for many reasons – our founder, Liz McGlennen had gone through a major career transition and was trying to find her path, a global pandemic was causing fear and economic disruptions, and in her home city of Minneapolis Minnesota racial disparities were front and center of national news after the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed. Liz’s involvement in the protests helped crystalize that her passion wasn’t purely in tech consulting, but in providing a larger, more community-based impast.

Liz wanted to use her expertise to help others. Her first opportunity came through connection to the Power Platform School, an initiative started in the UK by some talented Microsoft MVPs focused on increasing diversity within the Microsoft consulting space. She was able to help lead the US-based version of the program in early 2021 and once she experienced how fulfilling it was to help people start a new career, she new she had found her calling!

Liz decided to take The Power Platform School to the next level and began organizing TechFluent Academy as a standalone non-profit organization dedicated to reduce income inequality in under-resourced communities across the United States by providing mentorship and training on critical business applications and connecting those learners to jobs in the technology industry.

our principles

TechFluent Principles

TechFluent was born from two key principles: first, that the technology industry as a whole is continually hiring and in need of new talent; and second, that the same industry, and specifically the Microsoft business applications segment, has high barriers of entry for minority and marginalized communities.

These barriers include the fact that several employers require college degrees; there is a general misconception about the skillsets required to succeed in tech (in reality, business apps consultants do not need to write code!); and there is limited access to people already in the industry to help open doors for job opportunities.

Program Focus

The result of our program

The TechFluent Academy program is focused on providing training and education on the skills needed to be successful in a technology industry job, both from a technical perspective as well as soft-skills perspective. We bring our Constituents into the industry leverage no- and low-code business applications like Microsoft’s Power Platform, Power BI and the various ERPs to create immediate solutions for business challenges. This is a huge growth industry that shows no signs of stopping, which is an excellent career entry point. TechFluent curates online resources from Microsoft, LinkedIN Learning and live virtual training from industry experts. All of that is augmented with one-on-one mentorship by industry veterans supporting each participant throughout and beyond the Learning Cohort.
We have created a community of support and a network of professionals to help our Participants launch successful career journeys.

TechFluent's Goal

We believe the best way to truly impact someone’s life for the long term is to give them the skills they need to be successful in a lucrative career and provide personal and professional connections to support them along the way. Our goal is to place people in technology careers. Because TechFluent is about lasting change and meaningful impact, it is very important that everyone, from board members to volunteers, from trainers to mentors… everyone must be involved for the right reasons.
